Application Architect, JEE

Position Purpose: The Application Architect provides a cross-disciplinary approach to solving business problems using their understanding of the business and their experience, knowledge, IT trends and current technologies to design and develop strategic solutions to meet the business needs.
 The Application Architect leads the analysis and translates business requirements into viable technical solutions that meet the immediate and strategic needs of the business and department while leading the development effort. The Application Architect works with the senior team members to develop a technology roadmap for needed projects for both the business and to achieve the recommended technology advancements for the department.
 The Application Architect must have knowledge of commonly used concepts practices and procedures in a full software development lifecycle. The Application Architect is required to have a deep understanding of the technology used and have the ability to critically assess and create flexible, adaptable and scalable solutions to solve the needs of the business and see beyond the immediate request.
 RESPONSIBILITIES:
Works with management to identify complex business requirements.
Researches and evaluates alternative solutions and creates proposals to meet business needs.
Analyzes existing systems against IT and business strategies and makes well-defined recommendations and execution plans for efficiency and architecture/design improvements within and outside the execution of current projects.
Performs the role of Application Architect or Technical Lead for large or medium-size projects. 
Provides team leadership and guidance for technical leads and developers. 
Provide comprehensive consultation to business unit and IT management and staffs at the highest technical level on all phases of the project development cycle 
Evaluate existing tools/technologies and make appropriate recommendations for projects 
Share and mentor others on new technologies, design techniques, etc. 
Designs and architects new subsystems or major enhancements to existing systems in line with architecture team’s governance. 
Creates software artifacts / frameworks for developers from which the system will be created. 
Ensures team adheres to standards including coding, testing, and methodology. 
Reviews physical and technical designs of systems, ensuring sound decisions are being made. 
Enforces reduction in duplicate processes, code, etc. 
Primary owner of presenting and obtaining approval for project and system technical artifacts to IT management. 
Communicates project status 
Communicates effectively with non-technical people including business partners and end-users 
Recommends technical training programs for team
Is highly accountable for the effectiveness, quality and timeliness of project design decisions and how easily these designs can be implemented. 
Ability to work effectively with multiple business areas and understand the impact of systems on these areas. 
Assign roles to project resources according to skills, interest, and availability 
Perform/ensure quality assurance by reviewing testing results and performing code reviews 
Be responsible and accountable for meeting the expectation of the project sponsor 
Act as a point person for issues and questions on a project personnel management 
May manage direct reports 
QUALIFICATIONS: 
Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science or a related discipline or an equivalent combination of education and work experience. 
A minimum of 8 years experience in IT, typically 10 or more years, with at least 2 years leading technical projects. 
Deep JEE knowledge and demonstrated experience with at least one JEE Application Server, preferably WebLogic
Knowledge and experience with Relational Databases: mainly Oracle, MySQL and SQL Server are a plus 
Knowledge and demonstrated application of JEE and GoF design patterns 
Knowledge of Service Oriented Architectures, WSDL, Web services 
Knowledge and experience with popular open source Java tools and frameworks such as Hibernate, Spring, etc.
Multi-threaded applications. 
Highly developed skills for discerning wants from needs and determining core functionality requirements. 
Mature development and design skills. Able to understand and translate complex business concepts into sound, reusable designs. 
Solid technical documentation skills (e.g. functional and technical specifications) 
Experience with performance tuning high volume applications using performance testing and analysis tools 
Requires extensive experience with Object Oriented Analysis and Design and the ability to mentor others in its use 
Broad knowledge of systems and application program development technological alternatives.
